Context

You will manage the finances of the Group and provide administrative support to ensure that we maximize our social impact. The role sits within the Operations team, with responsibilities that cut across the Enterprise.

You are a certified accountant with a minimum of 3 years working experience managing finances for group entities. You have an eye for detail and can manage your time and competing priorities effectively and independently. You are someone who is intrinsically motivated and interested in problem-solving. 

You must have:

  • A qualified accountant (CPA) with an advanced degree in finance and accounting or business administration.
  • Minimum 3 years work experience managing finances
  • Experience managing online databases, and financial and accounting software
  • Fluency in oral and written English
  • Advanced Excel / Gsheet skills
  • Experience preparing statutory financial statements 
  • Experience of working within, or auditing, a group

This is a full-time role, you can live where you like and some international travel is required.

The Accounting Manager will perform an important function of managing the finances and financial systems of the organization on a daily basis, thereby ensuring that all personnel are supported to deliver our long-term vision and impact. This will include responsibilities such as:

  • Managing our online financial systems
  • Financial reporting and analysis
  • Bookkeeping
  • Internal control, compliance, and process improvement
  • Enterprise and project budgeting
  • Contributing to HR and contract management
  • Regulatory reporting

Responsibilities

The following are the primary responsibilities of the role, with estimated allocations of time and attention.

Deliver: Financial and Subsidiaries Support to the Enterprise 

Approximately 70% of your time and attention:

  • Performs in-depth financial and cost analyses of core business operations and processes; analyzes and organizes financial data and models for decision support.
  • Performs all tasks associated with the general ledger; including but not limited to, entering monthly journal entries, executing monthly closing of general ledger, producing financial statements, bank reconciliations, and reconciling accounts.
  • Prepares monthly financial and related management reporting including sub-contract related financial reconciliations; this includes monthly budget-to-actual reports and variance analysis.
  • Prepares cash flow forecasts for use in strategic making decisions and operations payout.
  • Compiles schedule and information required for year-end closing, annual audit, donor audit, and other statutory reporting
  • Assists with the various annual tax filings for the organization and subsidiaries  including overseeing and/or processing any forms and paperwork for the business function and administration.
  • Develops and maintains effective operations, systems, and processes for all activities in compliance with financial, accounting, and legal policies and practices.
  • Manages internal and external financial reporting, including investment portfolio analyses and projections, produce and ensure integrity of metrics of financial performance, valuation, and investment returns.
  • Utilizes online accounting software and banking portals for day-to-day transactions and reports including delivering monthly payments to all personnel, paying particular attention to project consultants and any changes to their payment parameters.
  • Maintains required financial records and documents, including the fixed asset register, contracts, and benefits.
  • Manages the billing and invoicing of project-related activities and follows up on overdue invoices and outstanding advances with project teams.
  • Assists with the updating of projects’ internal cash flow and enterprise budgets by making sure the information updated is accurate.
  • Assists with project-related financial reporting to donors and other insights.
  • Assists in overseeing, monitors, and reconciles accounts of the subsidiaries office.
  • Contributes to project contract and HR management.
  • Troubleshoots problems across our financial systems.
  • Contributes to project startup, termination and coordination of project information feeding into our corporate reporting.
  • Contributes to corporate, regulatory and governmental reporting as required by project funders and donors.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Approximately 20% of your time and attention:

Recommends and acts on process improvements; updates all necessary business policies and accounting practices; improves the finance department’s overall policy and procedure manual.

Direct: Global Management

Approximately 10% of your time and attention:

  • Represents and demonstrates the Enterprise’s values
  • Cooperates with and supports other areas of the Enterprise.

  • Minimum three years of progressive experience in a finance, accounting, or administrative position.
  • Ability to interpret financial data and prepare budgets and analysis.

  • Ability to prioritize your work independently.
  • Experience in managing online databases, and financial and accounting software.
