Seefar is seeking an experienced Safety, Security and Risk Advisor (consultant) to support in the implementation of its Regional Programme on Migration and Development for West Africa and the Sahel in Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire. The aim of the programme is to contribute to combat labour exploitation and improve migrant outcomes through ethical recruitment. 

Candidates should have proven experience and expertise in safety, security and risk management. They should meet the minimum requirements described below and have the ability to travel to West African countries. 

Salary: USD 5,500 for the duration of the consultancy contract

Seefar has a track record for delivering research, consulting, program design and evaluations and strategic communications projects in a number of countries, including on migration and human trafficking issues. 

The purpose of this role is to develop the risk mitigation plan, security plans, security training modules and monitoring strategy to support Seefar’s Regional Programme on Migration and Development for West Africa and the Sahel. The role demands a mature, intrinsically motivated person with extensive experience working in West Africa and the Sahel.

Deliverables and Timeline

The assignment will commence on or around February 2022 and is expected to be completed within 31 days of the contract signing.

First set of products: A risk register for the programme in adherence with Seefar’s risk register guidelines. The register shall include prevention and mitigation measures for all identified risks. An Excellent Candidate

To excel in this role, you will need: 

  • A strong understanding of the current socio-political and security context in West Africa and the Sahel (including in Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire)
  • Fluency in written and verbal English. French language skills are highly desirable.
  • At least 7 years experience working in the security field, with demonstrated experience in:
    • Developing risk registers and security plans for organisations based in West Africa and the Sahel.
    • Designing and implementing security training for programme beneficiaries.
  • Have the ability to travel in the region (including to/within Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire).
  • A network of credible security resources based in Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire.

  • Have the ability to travel to country programmes (Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire).
