Researcher – Nigeria/Niger/Tunisia

Seefar Foundation is seeking 9 individuals (3 per country) to join the team of “LACE” project in Nigeria/Niger/Tunisia. The project features a wide spectrum of activities aimed at delivering changes in knowledge, intentions and behaviours among people preparing to migrate irregularly or already in transit along the Central Mediterranean Route. 

The Researcher will contribute to a research project on the topic of access to information, misinformation and rumours around migration. He/she will conduct research activities in Nigeria/ Niger/Tunisia, including secondary desk reviews, mapping exercises for the identification of community representatives, key informant interviews (KIIs), surveys, and focus group discussions (FGDs).  

This is a full time, and short term position (4 months). You need to be based in one of the above mentioned countries and will conduct your work on-site. Remote work will also be required for some activities. 

Start date: 1 July, 2024

Salary: 1,500 EUR

We are looking for someone with: 

  • Minimum 3 years experience in field research 
  • Experience in administering quantitative surveys and qualitative interviews
  • Experience working with migrant communities
  • Computer literacy and access to the internet and laptop or electronic devices.
  • Substantive community-based work experience
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Fluency in one of the languages of the project (Tunisia, Nigeria, Niger)
    • Tunisia: Arabic / English/ French
    • Niger: English/ French/ Haoussa/ Djerma
    • Nigeria: English / Pidgin
  • Fluency in English

The following are the primary responsibilities of the role:

Deliver: Project and Mission Implementation

  1. Attend researchers' training
  2. Assist with development of research tools and their translation to local languages
  3. Collect insights on the tools and propose improvements to the M&E Lead
  4. Utilise existing knowledge and connections within migrant communities to support and enhance research activities.
  5. Conduct successful quantitative surveys
  6. Conduct successful qualitative interviews
  7. Ensure the accurate and reliable collection of data 
  8. Ensure accurate and timely transcription and data entry of all interviews and surveys
  9. Ensure that all logistical aspects are in place for smooth execution of fieldwork and data collection activities.
  10. Attend meetings with the M&E Lead as needed
  11. Assist in analysis of data collected to extract key insights and trends
  12. Adhere to project milestones, timelines and targets.
  13. Ensure adherence to research protocols and ethical guidelines.

  1. Contribute to other activities as requested by your supervisor.
  2. Demonstrating teamwork and collaborating with you peers as required, including sharing lessons learned and best practices

Direct: Global Management

  1. Represent and demonstrate the Foundation’s values.
  2. Cooperate with other areas of the Foundation, including to communicate substantive and administrative information that supports corporate management overall. For example, this would include ensuring effective internal reporting at the project level.
